Why Ethnic Baby Dolls are so Important to the Fabric of Society
As a little girl growing up, you are exposed to all sorts of baby dolls at an early age. Probably one of the first toys a girl ever remembers having is a doll. They come in all shapes, sizes and styles from tiny to big. However, anyone who is not Caucasian knows that finding a doll to match their heritage can sometimes pose a challenge. This is why ethnic baby dolls are so important in the lives of girls all over the world.
It is hard enough growing up in this world, but sometimes kids feel very different from those around them. One of the ways this can really hit home for a little girl is if she is in the racial minority in her world. For instance, it is no secret that there are still many areas that are predominantly white. Imagine being a young African American girl in an area with mostly white people. While race should not matter, often times a child with a different ethnic heritage wants a baby doll that looks like her.
As little girls, we often treat our baby dolls like they are real babies. We are their mommies, so if I am an Asian child, it is going to be very hard for me to relate to a baby doll that does not look like me. This is why ethnic baby dolls are so wonderful to have in this day and age. You can find baby dolls of just about every race and nationality. This is a great thing for little girls!
Being able to identify with one’s heritage, no matter what it is, is crucial to our development. By having ethnic baby dolls available for little girls, we give them one way to know that they are a part of something wonderful- their own unique heritage!
